Gallup and Healthways have released the State of American Well-Being: 2016 State Well-Being Rankings report, which highlights important trends in health and well-being.

Notably, overall well-being in the U.S. reached a record high in 2016. Hawaii, Alaska and South Dakota, states with track records of high well-being, were the top states in the 2016 rankings.

2016 also ushered in historically low smoking rates; historically high rates of exercise; and the highest scores recorded on several healthcare access measures, including health insurance coverage.

However; chronic diseases such as obesity (28.4%), diabetes (11.6%), and depression (17.8%) are now at their highest points since 2008.
