New Report Compares Rates of Those Who Have Survived a Heart Attack in 190 U.S. Communities

A new report, part of the Gallup-Sharecare State of American Well-Being series, examines the incidence of residents who have survived a heart attack in 190 communities nationwide and analyzes the impact of heart disease on important health and productivity outcomes.

The report also highlights results from hospitals, health systems, and providers that have successfully implemented lifestyle medicine programs to combat heart disease.

Boulder, Colorado and Ann Arbor, Michigan top the rankings with the lowest incidence of adults who have experienced a heart attack during their lifetime, each with a rate of 1.3%.

Heart disease places a tremendous toll on individuals, families, and caregivers. Gallup-Sharecare research shows that people with heart problems are less active and productive, have lower self-rated job performance, and have more trouble concentrating at work due to physical and mental health issues.

Additionally, many people who have had a heart attack may not be making the lifestyle changes that could prevent or reverse further cardiac disease.
